Example Opening Paragraph

I am writing to object to the proposed development of approximately 1,100 new homes in Earls Barton. I believe the scale of this proposal would cause significant harm to the character of the village and place unacceptable pressure on local infrastructure and services.

You may wish to explain who you are, where you live, and how the development would affect you personally.

Key Issues You May Wish to Raise

Below are common planning considerations. Please select those that apply to you and adapt the wording.

1. Scale of Development & Village Character

The proposed number of homes is excessive for a village the size of Earls Barton. Development on this scale would fundamentally change the character of the village, eroding its rural identity and sense of community.

2. Traffic & Road Safety

Local roads are already heavily congested, particularly at peak times. An additional 1,100 homes would significantly increase traffic, worsening congestion and raising serious road safety concerns for residents, pedestrians, and cyclists.

You may wish to mention:

Specific roads or junctions

School run times

Access to the A45 or surrounding routes

3. Pressure on Schools, Healthcare & Services

Local schools, GP surgeries, and healthcare services are already under strain. There is no clear evidence that existing or proposed infrastructure can accommodate the increased demand created by this development.

4. Flooding & Drainage Concerns

Earls Barton has a history of surface water and drainage issues. Large-scale development on surrounding land raises serious concerns about increased flood risk and the long-term effectiveness of proposed drainage solutions.

5. Loss of Countryside & Green Space

The development would result in the permanent loss of valuable countryside and green space surrounding the village. This land contributes to the rural setting of Earls Barton and provides environmental and wellbeing benefits to residents.

6. Cumulative Impact of Multiple Developments

When considered alongside other proposed developments in and around Earls Barton, the cumulative impact is unacceptable. The combined scale of growth has not been adequately assessed and would overwhelm local infrastructure.

Example Closing Paragraph

For the reasons outlined above, I respectfully request that this application is refused. I believe the proposal is unsustainable and not in the best long-term interests of Earls Barton or its residents.
